Through a ground-breaking
agreement with CableLabs, UpdateLogic® and cable operators
will provide the DTV industry an “in-band” distribution
of software updates over cable networks. The
software update is transmitted over digital cable networks
as data in-band using the same bandwidth from
PBS channels across the United States. Cable
operators simply retransmit or “carry” the
UpdateTV® software update data along with the video
and audio data from each PBS station.
For more information please read CableLabs® Enables UpdateLogic to Provide Software Update Delivery Service to Digital Cable Devices and UpdateLogic™ to Provide Update Services for Tru2way™ Interactive Cable Devices.
(NOTE: The “Public Television Digital Cable Carriage Agreement” between
the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS), National Cable & Telecommunications
Association (NCTA), and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), ensures that local
PBS digital channels will be carried on cable systems. The CableLabs/UpdateLogic
agreement essentially extends the APTS/NCTA/PBS agreement to also include re-transmission
of UpdateTV data across cable systems.)
The UpdateLogic software update service is compatible with the OpenCable™ Common
Download SCTE 28 and has been approved by CableLabs. UpdateTV can proactively
update software for any digital-cable device, including integrated DTV sets
or DVRs, including: two-way OCAP™ devices (iDCR), tru2way™ devices, CableCARD™ devices
(UDCP and DCR), and devices with clear QAM tuners. |
