netResolve™

netResolve is a consumer-initiated diagnostic tool that resides on the CE device and helps troubleshoot home networking problems. One of the biggest challenges for users, and the most frequent reasons for tech support calls, is simply connecting the CE device properly to the Internet. netResolve is a simple-to-use, menu-driven tool which helps identify and resolve common wired and wireless networking issues.

netResolve provides a simple wizard-like menu that automatically runs through a series of system configuration diagnostics and scans for wireless networks, security keys, IP addresses, DNS, gateways, link speed, firewalls, and more. The consumer is presented with easy-to-understand options on how to resolve the issue based on the current configuration.

netResolve also provides general troubleshooting for other common (non-Internet) problems such as audio/video input/output configurations, cable connections, screen settings, and more. The goal is to improve the user experience and resolve common issues before they result in a tech support call or product return.

An added benefit of netResolve is the ability for device manufacturers to provide dynamic system fixes or revise user instructions to resolve hot issues without having to wait for complete software updates. With today’s complex CE devices, it is quite common to have small software bugs or a confusing UI result in a large spike in call volume to tech support. Rather than endure weeks or months of support calls while a software update is being completed, netResolve enables manufacturers to communicate simple work-around solutions directly to consumers. Alert messages or work-around solutions are stored in the UpdateLogic NOC and automatically communicated to the consumer if the designated issue is queried. This “dynamic intelligence” enables manufacturers to globally distribute simple fixes in a prompt and expeditious manner.
